My brother e-mailed me this picture of himself on a recent ski trip he took with some friends near his home in Colorado Springs. Along with the picture came an invitation to book a flight and join them on one of their weekly outings.

They Aren't Kidding
We are in the WINDY CITY this weekend. May be stuck here until Monday. Not a bad place to be stuck due to weather. I could handle watching the Academy Awards in a beautiful hotel room. More stories and pictures to come. Stay safe, warm and dry.

København
Lille Hus was recently in Copenhagen, Denmark and posted a variety of pictures from her trip. The cool thing is that I recognize some of the shops she took photos of from when I was there 17 years ago. The unfortunate thing is that I was only 16 at the time and a total bitch about having to be there. It was a trip I took with my dad when he lived there and there was nothing about Copenhagen that I appreciated at the time. Seeing the pictures makes me want to go back. I love how adorable and quaint some of the photos make it seem. Plus, Danes are the happiest!

Did You Just Call Me Fat
When: February 20, 2007
It's time to party it up, and ....eat. Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is also known as Mardi Gras Day or Shrove Day. It is a day when people eat all they want of everything and anything they want (like the King Cake or the Shamrock Shake) as the following day is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of a long fasting period for Christians. In addition to fasting, Christians also give up something special that they enjoy. So, Fat Tuesday is a celebration and the opportunity to enjoy that favorite food or snack that you give up for the long Lenten season.
Nowhere on the planet is Fat Tuesday celebrated more than on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The day is celebrated with festivities and parades and of course much food and drink. While in New Orleans, a big tradition is in wearing Mardi Gras beads and giving them to others.
Did You Know? On Bourbon street in New Orleans, store owners coat poles and columns with Vaseline to keep wild and rowdy revelers from climbing them (and perhaps falling).
Maybe I'll Forgive NBC
I just found out the NBC will air the final episode of Studio 60 tonight. That sucks - it's the only show that I absolutely have (had) to see each week. On the up side, they do plan to run The Black Donnellys in that time slot starting next week. It is from the writers of Crash and Million Dollar Baby. I might be able to live with that.

I Love The Smell Of PVA Glue
Thank you Busy Work for this idea. Who knew that Fabric Roller Shade Kits existed? We have needed a window shade in our kitchen forever but I really don't like the plain white ones. I can't wait to pick out the fabric. I might be spending upwards of 18 hours at Jo-Ann Fabric this weekend.

We Saw It First
So we are staking claim. We plan to live here some day and all of you are invited for a pool party. Read all about our $1.8 Million DREAM HOUSE in Middleton, WI. And the answer to your question is "YES" we are willing to start by living in the pool house until we can afford the actual house. We figure by the time Alex is 67, we will be able to afford it. I guess this is what they mean by DREAM BIG!

Robots In Disguise
Alex is totally obsessed with transformers right now. It's the only thing he plays with and when he's not playing he is on-line doing google searches for transformers. Oh, and he's also watched the movie trailer a zillion times. So naturally when I found this, I had to get it for him. Happy Valentines Day Alex! I can't wait to ask him who that is on his shirt.
...But I Know That I Am A Good Dog

Enough Good News To Last Me Until 7 PM
Yesterday I picked up a copy of Paste magazine and discovered that Patty Griffin had a new CD coming out TODAY! Upon further investigation, I found out she is coming to Madison. She will also be the musical guest on David Letterman this Thursday, February 8.
Better Than Wallpaper - Easier Too
Choked Up Just Reading This
The richest woman in the U.K. and Harry Potter author just posted this on her official website:
"Charles Dickens put it better than I ever could:
'It would concern the reader little, perhaps, to know how sorrowfully the pen is laid down at the close of a two-years' imaginative task; or how an Author feels as if he were dismissing some portion of himself into the shadowy world, when a crowd of the creatures of his brain are going from him for ever.'
To which I can only sigh, try seventeen years, Charles...
I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye has been just as hard as I always knew it would be. Even while I'm mourning, though, I feel an incredible sense of achievement. I can hardly believe that I've finally written the ending I've been planning for so many years. I've never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric.
Some of you have expressed a (much more muted!) mixture of happiness and sadness at the prospect of the last book being published, and that has meant more than I can tell you. If it comes as any consolation, I think that there will be plenty to continue arguing and speculating about, even after 'Deathly Hallows' comes out. So if you're not yet ready to quit the message boards, do not despair...
I'm almost scared to admit this, but one thing has stopped me collapsing in a puddle of misery on the floor. While each of the previous Potter books has strong claims on my affections, 'Deathly Hallows' is my favourite, and that is the most wonderful way to finish the series.
Thanks to PerezHilton for the link and the post.
